How To Potty Train A Puppy? It is not as easy as it sounds.But is something that has to be done before it gets too late and your dog ends up with bad habits. Potty training a puppy is a matter of concern for most of the dog owners. As no matter how cute puppies look and you just love having them around but cleaning after there mess is no fun at all. Puppies are adorable and nothing makes it better if they are well potty trained.There are different ways on how to potty train puppies. For instance you can start to potty train them inside the house. That is if you live in an apartment.And going outside is not as convenient then this option can be opted for.
Potty Training Inside House:
The Idea is simple you can use sheets,papers or pads on an area which you would like the puppy to use to litter. When you see your puppy sniffing the floor or walking around. Then gently pick it up and place it on the pad or sheet. Whenever the puppy uses the pad praise it so that the puppy develops the understanding that it has done something right.
Crate Training Puppies:
Is another method to potty train puppies. Crate Training involves the use of crate or confined space in which puppies can reside Temporarily as it makes it unlikely for them to urinate or defecate in a place where they rest or sleep. And thus the puppy would not relieve itself when in a confined space but when it is released. So when the puppy is released it would relieve itself in your presence so make sure to praise your puppy.
Do keep it mind crate training puppies is meant to be for a temporary time period and keeping a puppy in a crate for long period of time will make the problem worse.
Supervising Puppy:
Supervising puppy would require your attention to quite some extent as you will be required to keep a track of the schedule of the puppy at what time you fed it. And if you see the puppy sniffing walking here and there in circles or has a high tail these are indications that the puppy wants to relieve itself. So when you see this rush your puppy outside observe it and do not interfere while the puppy is littering. Once the puppy has relieved itself praise it and then take it back inside. Do Not start playing with the puppy as it would not teach it anything. The whole purpose is to bring it outside to litter and then take it back inside is so that the puppy learns how and where it is meant to litter.

It is important to know that when training puppies that they do not know what they are doing is right or wrong. You will have to teach them and train them so that they are able to do the right thing each time.

- Verbal Commands can also be a crucial part in training a puppy. When you take it to an area where you want it to litter use some sort of command such as "Go Poop" or "Go take care of your business" etc. Use a specific command each time you want your puppy to poop and this would make the puppy aware of what you want it to do.
- Another problem faced by puppy owners. Is that they make a mistake of interfering when the puppy is relieving itself. Doing so would make the puppy confused as it would not be able to understand as to what it has done wrong. No commands or interference of any kind should exists when the puppy is urinating or defecating.
- Now this is a factor that cannot be controlled as puppies tend to urinate when they are excited or at times scared. This is something that is not under there direct control and the owner must be patient when this happens and just overlook this accident and ignore this mistake of the puppy. With the passage of time the puppy would grow out of it.

I have a 8 wk puppy I'm tryin to train it on a pad but it would never do it on the pad and always on the carpet what should I do.

Barking, I got a bark off for my pup and it seems to work, I found it at pets smart, they have a spray for puppy pads to help them go on it also, called wee wee I believe, also at the pet store, and my puppy pees alot in his condo, I also take him out about four times a day, he doesn't seem to be learning, any help? He is going to be to heavy for me to bathe him everyday because of it.
We Just got a 9 week old chihuahua. I have to work 5 days a week 7-3. She is using the potty pads when she urinates but not when she poops. We take her out when i get home but she NEVER goes outside and right when i take her inside she poops on the floor.

We just got an almost 6month old Morkie from my niece who couldn't keep him. He was doing well on wee pads up there (according to her), but here he isn't. Just like another stated, he likes my rugs! Aaahh... I am being patient though and hopefully soon he will use the pads or only outside :)
just go new puppy 2 days ago n she is something ... pee in living room kitchen n office first 3 hours.. n not outside one . took her out last night.for 30 minutes nothing at 1:30 am pooped all over my bedspread stinky poop too the pee pad work if i drop her on top and clean freak that i am not today left the pee pad there n nothing all night so far going to kennel her tonight need some sleep bad. wiping it up with paper towel then throwing out in the back yard looks like litter but at least she is smelling them.
A word of advice, wee pads rarely ever work. They just teach your pup that it's okay to pee on any cushy surface. Honestly, you shouldn't have to use wee pads, outside is where a dog should do its business. Oh, and it takes much longer than only a week to potty train a dog. A dog isn't fully potty trained until they haven't had an accident several months!
Can you train a puppy to go outside and inside at the same time? Cause i take my puppy outside and she goes fine. Then when i see her trying to go inside, i take her to the paper. I use paper cause like others have said, they learn anything plush is there bathroom area on the wee pads.

Pad training is a bad idea
I got my puppy this Saturday & I wanna start potty training her so I bought her training pads but when I make her sit on them to take care of business she holds it and doesn't pee or poop she runs away and pees under the table or on the carpet in the living room or my room. What should I do. I can't take her outside because she's only two months and it's to cold outside and I don't want her to get sick.

I have an 11-week-old puppy whonive been trying to potty train for 4 weeks but things are getting worse. I take him out of the crate in the morning, have him go, feed him and wait 30 min then let him out. He goes in command outside but when I take him out of the crate at night for playtime he goes 1 and 2 even after feeding him and letting him out. I can be ding the dishes in the same room and if I dont keep my eyes on him every second he will go when I'm not looking. Help. Pee pads aren't an option. He just rips those up.
For the few of you trying to get rid of puppies because they aren't potty training well...Shame on you, taking on an animal is a life commitment, stop getting pets because they are cute be responsible and only get one if you fully intend on caring for them. I have a 5 year old wolf that was so scared of everything that he was constantly peeing out of fear all over the place, it took a lot of bonding to make him trust me and a lot of months training him where to go, but now he is an amazing dog. I recently got a 4 month old husky/wolf mix that is also timid and pees when she is scared, we are not bonded and working on potty training. I understand that there are going to be accidents because that is what puppies do, but the key is patience, it is not going to happen over night. I think the crate is the better option so they are peeing outside and not in the house it can be confusing that they can pee in the house but only in certain areas. Aggression only makes things worse so don't punish an accident if you catch them in the act give them a "no" command and rush them out once they are done praise them and give them a treat over time they will understand that going potty outside gets rewarded and inside gets a firm tone that they don't appreciate. It is never to late to potty train, it is just harder the older they are because they have already learned a bad habit and don't know why they are all the sudden getting in trouble for it. Patience and diligence is the key.

This hub is of great interest to me at this time as I am staying with my son who has a 6 month old puppy that we are trying to potty train. Some days are better than others and she confines most of her pottying to puppy pads in the utility room. However, we are not there yet and shall keep at it patiently. Thanks for some helpful hints...
